Ready for Business

There is a certain warmth about Tania Wakefield that puts one right at ease.

Vodafone Events Centre’s new GM for Sales is a familiar face in the industry, and a friendly one at that. Since 1995, Tania has thrived in Hotels and Events by forming solid relationships with her clients and suppliers, from her early days at Spencer on Byron, to Sky City, and recently, Waipuna Hotels.

“It’s not rocket science,” she says. “Sales is about putting yourself in front of people, finding out what they need, and doing what you say you’re going to do.” Testament to her dedication are the clients who have followed Tania throughout her career.

Openness is Tania’s strongest suit. She’s ready to negotiate and deliver what her clients need to make their event a success. Her latest project is an all-in-one package for the Events Centre, Wero Whitewater Park, Austin’s Catering and The Sebel Manukau, and Ramada Suites Manukau.

“It just makes it easier to have it all on one sheet of paper rather than making the client go after each of them individually. And it’s an exciting time because of the two new hotels right next to us. This really helps us serve the multi-day, residential conferencing market.”

Tania’s looking forward to working again with former colleague Angharad Sturrock, who is the VEC’s new GM for Events. Angharad is the Yin to Tania’s Yang, and Tania is delighted to be working with an operations manager who has a strong sales focus. They frequently speak with clients together, ready with a full picture for any event.
