Project Light Bulb
Project Light Bulb is the main Engage Stream programme. It is composed of a short term and long term arts residency programme working in selected schools for up to two terms in a school year with the aim of enhancing and enriching arts learning. Arts Spark is the one ( 1 ) term introductory residency for schools that have not experienced arts residencies before while Arts Ignite is a long term partnership with schools over two ( 2 ) terms. Arts Ignite aims to develop arts rich schools and participation is by invitation.
The main project consists of groups of artists from different fields visiting the schools and working with students and teachers. The artists involved will be experienced musicians, TV/film actors, directors, dancers, choreographers, composers, writers, designers or video artists. Together with the participants, they will create a performance piece, build their confidence, and develop their skills and understanding of the creative process. The programme will culminate in one event featuring the performance pieces within the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre.
One residency programme under Project Light Bulb is The Cloaks Project. It is a one term programme where arts practitioners work with students and teachers to develop and design their own cloaks that represent their turangawaewae – their sense of belonging. The finished cloaks will be paraded by the children in a family event at the theatre against a backdrop of a multimedia presentation with live performance component from each school. The programme is developed and headed by Sally Markham, Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for Services to the Arts, with 40 years’ experience in arts education.
