Walkway

Walkway is a series of totems erected in celebration of coastal access. These giant figures traverse the walkway making a claim of kinship to this special place - the coastline of our country.

The figures are obviously people, but are elongated and shadowlike without the definition of features or limbs. They are generic in character without connotation of any of the normal human classifiers e.g. gender, age, race or financial status.

These figures are representative of all New Zealanders.

Richard was born in Timaru in 1958. His first career was as an academic/exploration geologist. He has been a sculptor/painter based on the 'bottom-end' of Waiheke Island since 2000. He was a finalist in the Goldwater Art Awards 2004.
